Host Family

Norris and Lori Marshall of Kearney are proud to be the Host Family for the 2010 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska. Honorary Hosts for the 2010 Ball are Norris’ dad and uncle, Robin and Eugene Marshall. Robin and Eugene have a long history in the cattle industry—from cow/calf production, to operating feed yards, as well as owning and operating a livestock auction market in Kearney. Their father, Warren Marshall, brought the boys up in the cattle business from a young age. They were running cattle as teenagers.

Grandpa Warren purchased Kearney Livestock Commission Company in 1945, adding a livestock auction market to the family business. During the 1950s, both boys began their careers as livestock auctioneers, while continuing to run cattle on their own.

After Warren’s death in 1967, Robin and Eugene purchased the livestock auction market from the family estate and operated it for almost 20 more years. In 2005, Robin retired from life on the farm and moved to town, selling off the cows and closing down the feedlot. Robin continues to work with his son, Miles, in the ag real-estate and farm machinery auction business.

Eugene still lives on the farm near Elm Creek. His son, Jeff, runs cattle and manages their family’s “Marshall Ranch” operations including cattle feeding and cow/calf production. Jeff also carries on the family tradition in the livestock auction business and is the manager and an auctioneer at Lexington Livestock Auction in Lexington, Nebraska.

Lori Hild-Marshall grew up north of Elm Creek on the family farm and ranch owned by Jake & Delores Hild where her grandfather raised registered Herefords. Her brother still lives on the ranch and raises cattle. Norris and Lori have four children. Amanda is the eldest and is married to Pete Sutter. They have a daughter, Olivia. Ashley is married to Ed Bostron - Amber is married to Troy Simpson - and Norris and Lori’s son, Andrew, has a son, Adrik.

Norris and Lori have many family members in the area, and many of them are actively participating in making this year’s Cattlemen’s Ball the best ever.
